Heads up: Brewery details — hours, amenities, policies, and availability — change often and may be inaccurate. Always confirm directly with the venue. See our full disclaimer. Please drink responsibly (21+).

The Seacoast route covers five stops across Portsmouth and neighboring Newmarket. Two of them — Loaded Question and Liars Bench — sit on the same stretch of Islington Street in Portsmouth’s West End and are an easy walk apart. Earth Eagle Tavern is a short walk or quick drive away near Market Square. Great Rhythm Brewing relocated in 2025 to the west side of the city and now requires a short drive rather than a walk. Deciduous Brewing rounds out the day with a longer drive out to Newmarket via Route 108 and Route 33. Add in Prescott Park, the Portsmouth waterfront, Strawbery Banke Museum, and Rye beaches, and the route still fits comfortably into a single day, though plan on doing some of it by car rather than entirely on foot.

Portsmouth’s West End: Two Breweries, One Walkable Street

Loaded Question and Liars Bench both sit on Islington Street in Portsmouth’s West End, about half a mile apart — close enough to walk between the two without much trouble.

Loaded Question Brewing

Tucked into the West End’s creative Islington Street corridor at 909 Islington Street, Loaded Question specializes in highly rotating, experimental small batches built around the idea that there are no wrong answers to a beer.

Liars Bench Beer Co.

A short walk down the same street at 459 Islington Street, Liars Bench occupies a gritty-chic converted plumbing supply warehouse and is known for unpretentious, traditional old-school beer styles paired with creative hot dogs.

Earth Eagle Tavern

Earth Eagle has shifted away from full-time brewing. The business has transitioned to Earth Eagle Tavern, running two locations — one at 175 High Street in Portsmouth, a short walk from Market Square, and a second in Somersworth — built around a curated guest-tap list, with its own house beer now brewed only periodically. It’s well worth a visit as a craft beer tavern stop, just don’t count on finding Earth Eagle’s own beer on every trip.

Great Rhythm Brewing Co.

Great Rhythm spent nearly a decade in a striking Bartlett Street taproom overlooking North Mill Pond before that building went into redevelopment; its last day there was January 19, 2025. The brewery relocated to 235 West Road and was brewing again at the new facility by that spring. It sits on the west side of Portsmouth near I-95, in an industrial park off Peverly Hill Road — a short drive from downtown rather than a walk. Its hazy New England IPAs, Squeeze and Tropical Haze, remain the brewery’s signature pours at the new location.

Newmarket: Deciduous Brewing Company

A short drive out via Route 108 and Route 33, Deciduous sits at 12 Weaver Street in an old mill town setting. It’s well-regarded among regional beer fans for mixed-fermentation dessert sours and hazy IPAs, including hazy double IPAs on rotation.

Planning Your Seacoast Trail

  • Loaded Question and Liars Benchare the true walkable pair on this route — both on Islington Street in the West End, about half a mile apart.
  • Earth Eagle Tavern’s Portsmouth location is a short walk or quick drive from Market Square, putting it within easy reach of Prescott Park, Strawbery Banke Museum, and the Portsmouth waterfront.
  • Great Rhythm Brewing now requires a drive. Since relocating from Bartlett Street to West Road in early 2025, it sits on the west side of the city, outside the downtown walking cluster.
  • Rye beaches are a short drive south of downtown via Route 1A, making a coastal loop before or after the brewery stops an easy add-on (allow extra time in summer beach traffic).
  • Save Deciduous for lastif you’re driving, since Newmarket sits well outside the Portsmouth cluster.
  • Know before you go: Earth Eagle now brews its own beer only periodically. Visit for the guest-tap list and tavern atmosphere rather than counting on house-made beer.

Frequently asked questions

Which Seacoast breweries can I walk between?

Loaded Question and Liars Bench are the true walkable pair — both sit on Islington Street in Portsmouth’s West End, about half a mile apart. The rest of the route is best done by car: Earth Eagle Tavern near Market Square, Great Rhythm on West Road, and Deciduous out in Newmarket.

Does Earth Eagle still brew its own beer?

Only periodically. Earth Eagle Brewings has transitioned to Earth Eagle Tavern, running two locations — 175 High Street in Portsmouth and one in Somersworth — built around a curated guest-tap list, with its own house beer now brewed only in a limited rotation. It’s still worth a visit as a craft beer tavern, just don’t count on Earth Eagle’s own beer being on tap every time.

Did Great Rhythm Brewing move?

Yes. Great Rhythm left its longtime Bartlett Street taproom in January 2025 and relocated to 235 West Road on the west side of Portsmouth near I-95. It now requires a short drive from downtown rather than a walk. Its signature hazy IPAs, Squeeze and Tropical Haze, are poured at the new location.

Yes. Earth Eagle Tavern’s Portsmouth location sits within easy reach of Prescott Park, Strawbery Banke Museum, and the waterfront, and Rye beaches are a short drive south via Route 1A.
